Here's a sampling of what has kept me busy on School Committee for 6 years:

  • Elected Vice Chair in November 2015 and Chair in February 2017, advancing the work on our facilities, undertaking a collaborative budget process, working with our Mayor, supporting four new School Committee members, and leading the collective bargaining team.

  • High School Start Time Committee:  Part of a team to fully understand the implications of changing the start time including significant outreach and communication with parent community and the design of a new schedule.

  • Liaison to the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee.  I have enjoyed learning and helping to think through the needs of our families with different kinds of learners.

  • METCO Liaison.  I have advocated for increased support for the program at the State House every year and helped celebrate the 50th Anniversary of METCO in 2017.

  • Liaison to the Youth Commission and the Student Advisory Council to the School Committee.  Youth voices in our city and government are vital, especially in areas of direct concern to teens.

  • Collective Bargaining.  I am working with colleagues and the unions to negotiate fair contracts for all of our valued employees.

  • Newton School Committee (2014- 2019); Chair (2017-present).

  • Bowen Liaison to the successful 2013 Override.

  • Bowen PTO Co-Chair; PTO Council Member.

  • 30 year career in philanthropy and experiential education.

  • NSHS graduate; children are NSHS class of 2019 and 2022.

  • BA Dartmouth College; M.Ed. University of Toronto.
