Newton School Committee, Ward 6
My name is Ruth Goldman and I am running for re-election to the School Committee in Ward 6. All Newton voters can vote for me. I am completing my 6th year and currently serve as Chair of the School Committee. It is a privilege to be a public official. I am fortunate to serve with wonderful colleagues, interact with dedicated students and parents, and learn from the talented administration, faculty and staff of the Newton Public Schools. We have accomplished a lot during my tenure including the opening of 3 new
school buildings, implementation of Full Day Kindergarten, and the creation of programs to increase academic achievement. I have been involved many aspects of these and other initiatives. I come away an even stronger advocate for public education, with a renewed commitment to civic engagement and making government work.
As an elected official, I am acutely aware of the need to engage the needs of constituents while recognizing the enormous task of our NPS professionals. I have learned that my abilities to listen, find common ground, and work towards consensus are essential to effective public service.
The next two years will be rewarding and challenging. Our recent investments in new technology and updated curriculum, as well as our focus on building more connected, culturally competent schools where all students feel welcome and supported will bear fruit and we will continue to see the achievement gap in Newton close. Yet, we still have much work to do to ensure all of our buildings provide high quality learning spaces and that school is a place where all children thrive and meet their potential.
I am eager to hear your ideas for the Newton Schools. Please feel free to contact me anytime at or call my cell phone at 617-719-5048.
I look forward to hearing from you,
